What to expect at your appointment

During an Osteopathic appointment, you can expect a thorough assessment of your health and a hands-on treatment approach. Here's what you might typically experience during an osteopathic appointment:

Medical History:

Your Osteopath will begin by taking a detailed medical history, asking questions about your current symptoms, past medical conditions, surgeries, medications, and any relevant lifestyle factors.

Physical Examination:

The Osteopath will perform a physical examination, which may involve observing your posture, assessing your range of motion, and palpating (using their hands to feel) to identify areas of tension, restriction, or pain.

Diagnosis:

Based on the information gathered from your medical history and physical examination, the Osteopath will formulate a diagnosis or hypothesis about the underlying causes of your symptoms or complaints. They will explain their findings to you and discuss the treatment plan.

Treatment:

Osteopathic treatment typically involves manual techniques. The Osteopath will use their hands to apply gentle pressure, manipulation, stretching, or other techniques to specific areas of your body to address any identified dysfunctions or imbalances. The aim is to restore function, improve mobility, and enhance your ability to live your life.

Additional Recommendations:

In addition to manual techniques, your Osteopath may provide lifestyle recommendations, advice on ergonomics, exercises, and stretches to help manage your condition and prevent future issues. They may also suggest modifications to your diet or provide guidance on stress management and self-care practices.

Follow-up:

Depending on your condition, your Osteopath may recommend follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. They may also collaborate with other healthcare providers if additional care is required.

It's important to note that the specific procedures and techniques used during an Osteopathic appointment can vary depending on the practitioner's training, style, and the individual patient's needs. It's always a good idea to communicate openly with your Osteopath, ask questions, and discuss any concerns you may have.
